Wound Care Center

Lake Health's Wound Care Center earned the Diversified Clinical Services Center of Distinction Award by delivering outstanding results for 12 consecutive months in 2009. This prestigious honor was awarded in recognition of the Wound Care Center's high patient satisfaction rates, exceptional healing results, and outstanding clinical outcomes.

Treating Hard-to-Heal Wounds

Lake Health offers the latest technology for wound care on an outpatient basis at West Medical Center in Willoughby. The only center of its kind in Lake and Geauga counties, the Wound Care Center represents a major resource for patients and physicians in the fight against debilitating skin ulcers.

Dealing with Problem Wounds

At any given time, almost six million Americans suffer from problem wounds. There are many different types of wounds. Some are associated with complications from diabetes and other related vascular disorders. Other types include pressure sores and traumatic wounds. Healing these wounds can be frustrating and time consuming. At Lake Health’s Wound Care Center, we utilize the most up-to-date approaches to wound healing and remain current in new, scientific advances in wound care.

Our professional staff provides a specialized, comprehensive course of treatment to assist in healing your problem wound. During your treatment, our staff will work with your physician to assure complete continuity of all your medical services.

Wound Treatment Program

When referred to the Wound Care Center, patients undergo a thorough diagnostic exam to identify the type of wound they have and the underlying problems causing the wound. We then tailor a program specifically to each patient’s needs. Treatment options include:

  • Infectious disease management
  • Physical therapy
  • Vascular evaluation
  • Laboratory evaluation
  • Nutritional management
  • Pain management
  • Diabetic education
  • Nuclear medicine
  • Radiology
  • Debridement
  • Hyperbaric Therapy

Hyperbaric Therapy

Lake Health’s Wound Care Center offers two hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) chambers. The air pressure inside a hyperbaric chamber is about two and one-half times greater than the normal pressure in the atmosphere, which increases the amount of oxygen in the blood, enabling wounds to heal faster. Research has shown that HBOT effectively treats wounds such as diabetic ulcers, soft-tissue damage from radiation, and other hard-to-heal wounds.
