Women’s Diagnostic Center
Conveniently located inside TriPoint Medical Center, the Women’s Diagnostic Center offers women the full range of imaging services all in one location. The center provides an ideal environment for women’s health services, including a separate entrance, private registration, and individual private dressing rooms which open directly into the mammography suite. The Women’s Diagnostic Center staff also includes a breast health navigator, a nurse dedicated to guiding women through the system with support and education.
The following services are provided at the Women’s Diagnostic Center:
- Mammography
- Bone Densitometry (DEXA or bone density testing)
- Pelvic and Abdominal Ultrasounds
- Image-guided Core Breast Biopsy
Mammography
A mammogram is a low-dose X-ray that produces an image of the breast. It is an essential component of ensuring good breast health.
The Women’s Diagnostic Center offers digital mammography, which has been found to be diagnostically superior for pre- and peri-menopausal women. It allows us to perform a mammogram faster without sacrificing image quality. That means we can service more patients each day, reducing the time that a woman has to wait to schedule her mammogram.
The mammography suites feature private dressing rooms that open directly into the suite so women don’t have to go into the corridor after she undresses.
Bone Densitometry
Bone densitometry, also known as DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) is a quick and painless X-ray that measures bone density. It is most often used to detect osteoporosis, but it can also assess your risk for developing fractures.
Pelvic and Abdominal Ultrasound
The center offers pelvic and abdominal ultrasounds for diagnostic purposes. This non-invasive test uses high frequency sound waves to visualize the pelvic and abdominal area. Ultrasound is also used in pregnancy.
Image-guided Core Breast Biopsy
Image-guided core breast biopsy is the newest, most comfortable way to diagnose a breast abnormality. Unlike traditional open surgical breast biopsies, this outpatient procedure involves taking a small sample of breast tissue using ultrasound- or stereotactic-guided technology without the need for incisions or general anesthesia. Image-guided core breast biopsy is appropriate for most women whose mammograms detect an abnormality.
Nearby, the center provides MRI breast imaging and breast biopsies guided by MRI, an emerging field that has only recently been made available outside research settings.
