Ultrasound

Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce pictures of different body systems. As a small wand is passed over the body part being studied, an image appears on a computer screen, allowing the physician or technician to view the body part.

Ultrasound is used to study the abdomen, pelvis, and the blood flow in the legs and carotid arteries. Ultrasound is also used in pregnancy.

Lake Health recently upgraded the ultrasound technology at all of its sites. The new machines integrate unltrasound imaging with computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologies. Using GPS technology, the scans take coordinates from previous scans, find the exact location within the patient's body, and display the scanned image side by side with the ultrasound image in real time, simultaneously updating the exact location in the CT or MRI images as the unltrasound probe is moved. This allows us to be more precise in evaluating kidneys and livers.

Ultrasound is available at TriPoint Medical Center, West Medical Center, Mentor Campus, Madison Campus, Chardon Campus, Mentor Diagnostics, and Lyndhurst Diagnostics.
