How Your Donated Dollars Help

Through your generous annual gifts, Lake Health Foundation is able to help provide superb medical care through advanced technology, cutting edge clinical practices, and compassionate patient care. Below are examples of where your donations to Lake Health Foundation are applied:

INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

Pause, Reflect, Heal

Lake Health introduced an Integrative Medicine program that combines conventional medicine with ancient wisdom and complementary therapies to treat the whole person.  The selected therapies are evidenced based and include healing touch, medical massage, music therapy and pet therapy.  The program was launched on the oncology and orthopedic units at West Medical Center - gift support will help expand this program throughout Lake Health.

WOMEN’S HEALTH

Lake Health has accredited mammography services at five locations including a digital mammography unit at West Medical Center and TriPoint Medical Center.  For those who have had an abnormal mammogram, Lake Health Foundation supports a uniquely effective Breast Health program. A coordinator works individually to assist the patient in navigating the process which includes: understanding diagnosis and treatment options, assisting with informed decision making, and coaching the patient as well as family members.  Gift support of this uniquely valuable program in the form of cash, stock or a bequest secures this service for patients and families.

DIABETES EDUCATION

Lake Health Foundation wishes to enhance support provided to diabetic education initiatives.  Locally there is a high incidence of diabetes, a disease that ultimately leads to high blood sugar levels and over a long period of time can damage kidneys, nerves, blood vessels, and the retina of the eye.  Risk factors for developing diabetes include high blood pressure, high-fat diet, high alcohol intake, sedentary lifestyle, and obesity or being overweight.  Age becomes a risk factor for those 45 and older.  Diabetes is believed to have a strong genetic link with African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Japanese Americans at risk.  Financial support of education efforts helps individuals manage this chronic disease.

CANCER CARE

The Lake Health/University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center in Mentor, Ohio provides multifaceted cancer care with both medical oncology and radiation therapy.  The site has a linear accelerator for radiation therapy and day beds for chemotherapy. Opportunities exist for patients to participate in clinical trials.  The center is a joint venture with the University Hospitals of Cleveland Seidman Cancer Center. With gifts provided from many sources, Lake Health Foundation has helped to provide massage therapy, at no cost, to cancer patients.  Massage therapy reduces swelling and other uncomfortable side effects of treatments.  A comprehensive outpatient Pallative Care program will be introduced should adequate funding be obtained.  Please support cancer services with a gift of cash, stock or a bequest.

GIFTING

Think of unrestricted gifts as the key that opens a locked door … think of unrestricted gifts as the bridge over the river that gets us from where we are today to where we need to be tomorrow.  Unrestricted contributions help solve the most pressing needs; unrestricted contributions create opportunities. In addition to participation in the annual Glitz and/or the annual Golf Tournament, please consider an unrestricted annual gift.
