Lake Health Opens Osteoporosis Clinics
Facilities offer advanced treatment and prevention services
CONCORD TOWNSHIP, Ohio, March 18, 2010 - According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, one in two women and one in four men in the United States will develop osteoporosis, a disease that causes bones to become fragile and break. To address this critical health issue, Lake Health recently opened Osteoporosis Clinics at West Medical Center and TriPoint Medical Center to provide advanced multidisciplinary care for the treatment and prevention of metabolic bone disease.
The clinics offer comprehensive evaluation, screening and treatments, including patient education in the areas of nutrition, exercise, smoking cessation, and medication focused on the prevention and management of osteoporosis. Additionally, the clinics provide technical and clinical excellence in the field of bone mass measurement testing. Both locations are equipped with Dual Energy X-ray Absortiometry (DEXA) machines—the most advanced technology for scanning weak/porous bones.
Cleveland Engineering Society Honors Lake Health's TriPoint Medical Center
CONCORD TWP., OH - March 18, 2010 - Lake Health’s TriPoint Medical Center was honored with the 2010 Award of Excellence in Design and Construction by the Cleveland Engineering Society at the 58th Annual Design and Construction Conference. The Award of Excellence program recognizes and honors Northeast Ohio projects that reflect excellence in design, engineering and construction.
With a unique design that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings, TriPoint Medical Center was constructed using the Center for Health Design’s Pebble Project initiatives to guide the building's design. As one of only 42 projects nationwide to earn the Pebble Project distinction, TriPoint Medical Center exemplifies the correlation between facility design and improved quality of care. For Pebble Project partners, this has translated to increased patient satisfaction, fewer infections, decreased patient transfers and reduced staff turnover.

Lake Health Offers Breakthrough Technology To Help Patients Regain Hand Function
Free Patient Screening To Be Held March 16
CONCORD TOWNSHIP, Ohio, February 18, 2010—Stroke, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury can significantly impair an individual’s neurological abilities, making hand movements, like grasping, difficult. Even with the most aggressive occupational therapy regimen, many patients are only able to recover a portion of their hand function. Now Lake Health is offering a revolutionary technology that is helping patients—even those whose injuries are years old—regain use of their hands, allowing them to return to daily activities with confidence.
The NESS H200™ developed by Bioness Inc. is an advanced therapy system that uses mild electrical stimulation to improve hand function and promote motor recovery. The device, which Lake Health incorporated into its therapy program in January, consists of a soft polymer fitting that surrounds the patient’s hand and forearm. Five electrodes, embedded into the fitting, activate muscle groups in the forearm to produce functional movement patterns in the hand and facilitate neuromuscular re-education. A separate control unit allows the therapist to program the system with a series of exercises customized for each patient.
