NAPBC Certified

Lake Health's Breast Center has been granted a full three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.

Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

During the survey process, the center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.

"As the only accredited breast center in Lake County, women in Lake County and surrounding communities can rest assured that they are getting the highest level of breast care available," said Cynthia Moore-Hardy, FACHE, president and CEO of Lake Health. "Our multidisciplinary team offers a patient- and family-centered approach to the management of breast cancer and breast health and is committed to meeting the diverse needs of our patients and their families."

Lake Health's Breast Center offers comprehensive services and advanced treatments for breast patients including mammography at seven sites, including digital mammography at TriPoint Medical Center, West Medical Center, and the Mentor Campus; minimally invasive core breast biopsies with stereotactic, ultrasound and MRI guidance; breast ultrasound; breast MRI; weekly multidisciplinary breast conferences; a breast health navigator that is available to coordinate services and guide patients and families through the health care system; and a monthly breast cancer support group. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy, including Mammosite, are offered through the Lake Health/University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.

According to The American Cancer Society (ACS) the chance of a woman having breast cancer some time during her life is a little less than 1 in 8. In fact, for 2011 the ACS estimates that about 230,480 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. The good news though is fewer women are dying from breast cancer due to earlier diagnosis and better treatment.

Receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited breast center ensures that a patient will have access to:

• Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services
• A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
• Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
• Quality breast care close to home

For more information about the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, visit their Web site at www.accreditedbreastcenters.org.

About the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)
The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast. This mission is pursued through standard-setting, scientific validation, and patient and professional education. Its board membership includes professionals from 15 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of breast care.

Early Diagnosis

Early Diagnosis & Heart Attack Intervention

When it comes to heart attacks, time is muscle and early intervention can make the difference between life and death. The sooner the coronary artery can be unblocked, the better the chances for survival and avoidance of permanent damage to the heart.

Lake Health offers the most advanced diagnostics and emergency intervention procedures to treat the early signs of a heart attack. The Chest Pain Centers at both TriPoint Medical Center and West Medical Center Emergency Departments are accredited by the Joint Commission, which certifies that our specially trained team of emergency room physicians, cardiologists and team members provide heart attack patients immediate care with quality outcomes. Patients receive the same high level of life-saving care at our freestanding emergency department located at the Madison Campus.

What's more, Lake Health coordinates with local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to ensure that heart attack patients receive treatment while en route to the emergency room. EMS transmits electrocardiogram results directly to the Lake Health emergency department to activate the critical care team, a cardiologist and catheterization team before the ambulance even arrives. This high level of expedited cardiac care has enabled Lake Health to exceed the American Heart Association's gold standard for opening the blocked artery, known as door-to-balloon time, in 90 minutes or less. All of which should give you peace of mind to know that Lake Health is here to handle all cardiac-related emergencies and help you return to your life faster.
