Concord Township, April 20, 2010 - Lake Health wants you to be an informed partner in your own care, working collaboratively with your health care professionals.  Accurate, reliable information is vital for making good health care choices.  The Carol DeJoy Lake Health Community Resource Center at TriPoint Medical Center is now open to the community and provides access to authoritative, current medical and health information.  The resource center provides a productive and quiet place to research disease information; it’s also a place for waiting family members to e-mail updates on other family members, conduct business, or simply relax and read a newspaper.

"Lake Health has long possessed a superior medical library. Some of the medical searches I have conducted through the library have absolutely changed the way I delivered care to patients," said Jaye Benjamin, MD, Chairman of the Library for Lake Health.  "It's a valuable resource that the community can tap into to help them make informed health care choices they are comfortable with."

The Carol DeJoy Lake Health Community Resource Center provides library services, including internet and research databases, answers to reference questions, loans of books and journals, personal book orders, personalized training on research techniques and copies of articles from other library resources.  The resource center also features a small audiovisual room equipped with a Smart Board for interactive learning and collaboration, a TV with DVD player, and internet access.  Support groups, community organizations, and family members are encouraged to use this room for meetings; please call 440-639-4387 to reserve.

"When patients receive a diagnosis, they are often overwhelmed with information and automatically search the internet for answers," said Holly Kimborowicz, MLS, AHIP. "These patients can now come to the resource center and we can assist them in researching good quality information versus incorrect information to encourage being a true partner in their health care."
