PAINESVILLE, OH, February 17, 2009 – Lake Health is the only health care facility in Lake County, and one of only two sites in Northeast Ohio, to offer patients a powerful diagnostic imaging system known as PET/CT that is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Lake Health recently received a three-year accreditation from the ACR for its PET/CT scanner at the Mentor Campus and its nuclear medicine program at LakeEast and West Medical Centers. They join Lake Health’s five mammography sites and three MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) sites, which are also accredited by the ACR.

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice.  Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.  The ACR assesses the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment.  The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
