Lake Hospital System is now Lake Health
PAINESVILLE, Ohio, June 12, 2009 - After years of redefining health care in Northeast Ohio, Lake Hospital System has redefined itself. Lake Hospital System today announced that it has adopted a new name—Lake Health. The new name reflects the health system’s 107-year heritage of progressive growth, and its evolution from a single hospital to a comprehensive health system that includes two state-of-the-art community hospitals; an outpatient medical campus and surgery center; four urgent care facilities; a rehabilitation and wellness center; chronic health care clinics; an integrative medicine program; a cancer center; and a physician network comprised of 57 doctors.
More than a year was spent planning for the identity change, which marks an exciting new phase in the history of the health system.
Lake Health Joins MedWish
PAINESVILLE, OH, April 20, 2009 – Lake Health has joined forces with MedWish International, a local non-profit organization committed to the recovery and recycling of usable medical supplies area health care providers must discard. These medical supplies include durable medical equipment, opened but unused sterile disposables, as well as medical equipment and furnishings.
Globally, the MedWish International program improves the quality of medical care available to the underserved around the world; locally, we are effectively reducing the amount of solid waste deposited in landfills. MedWish International also serves as a resource for local health care professionals and charitable organizations interested in global health.

New Targeted “Internal” Radiation Therapy
PAINESVILLE, Ohio, March 17, 2009 — Lake Health is one of just a few hospitals in Northeast Ohio to offer a new radiation therapy called MammoSite® to patients with early-stage breast cancer who choose to have lumpectomies. The MammoSite system delivers high-dose radiation directly to the site where the cancerous lump was removed, targeting the area where cancer would most likely recur. The therapy minimizes radiation exposure to healthy tissue, and the course of treatment is five days compared to six to seven weeks with the standard treatment method.
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in women. It is estimated that more than 180,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year in the United States, with 55,700 of them found to have early-stage cancers.
