May is the time when most people in Northeast Ohio begin to get outside and practice active living. An active lifestyle, combined with healthy eating, is the number one way to prevent obesity, and key to preventing a host of serious obesity-related diseases, including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and asthma.
In 1983, May was declared Physical Fitness and Sports month by President Ronald Reagan. Since then, the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition encourages individuals and organizations to celebrate physical activity, fitness and sports participation.
Here are eight tips that will help you get moving on the right track in May:
- Start your day with breakfast
- Get moving - 30 minutes a day
- Snack smart
- Work up a sweat
- Balance your food choices
- Get fit with family and friends
- Eat more grains, fruits, and vegetables
- Join in physical activity
In honor of Physical Fitness and Sports month, Lake Health will be offering a complimentary minor injury evaluation clinic on Tuesday, May 17 from 4 - 6 p.m. If you have been feeling sore or have minor pain and have been putting off that doctor's appointment then our minor injury evaluation clinic is for you.
